NICARAGUA: Government splits over contrasting judicial rulings

The animosity between the legislative and executive branches of government reached new levels in March. The poor relationship deteriorated further after the top tribunal in Nicaragua, the supreme court of justice (CSJ) and the top regional tribunal, the Central American Court of Justice (CCJ), handed down two distinct rulings on the constitutional reform package approved by the opposition-dominated legislature that curtails the powers of President Enrique Bolaños.
